JAZZ ‘N PAZ…WHAT?
A Jazz Series in Pasadena, you say? Yes, Indeedy Do…and to benefit NUUC Too!
Beginning Sunday, September 17th, the amazing L.A. Jazz scene will be brought right to our door every 3rd Sunday of the month from 5PM to 6PM. Jazz N’ Paz, is a jazz series curated by Jamie Perez/Performances a la Carte as a fundraiser for NUUC. Some of L.A.’s finest jazz musicians (we’re talking Grammy awards and the like) are lined up to take center pulpit for this benefit series.
SEPTEMBER 17, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
2 + 1 MEDEIROS & PEREZ / TEGMEYER: JAZZ BASS & VOCALS WITH CLARINET – A minimalist duo featuring the amazing bassist Lyman Medeiros (on tour now in Italy with Steve Tyrell) and versatile vocalist and composer, Carla “Jamie” Perez, conversing, interpreting and improvising jazz standards and originals. Added to this great mix for this event is guest artist, jazz clarinet phenom, John Tegmeyer. Together this threesome evidence that less is more in this soul-satisfying and penetrating hour long musical journey.
OCTOBER 15, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
CATINA DELUNA & LADO B BRAZILLIAN PROJECT featuring OTMARO RUIZ – Brazillian singer and arranger, Catina DeLuna and Lado B Brazillian Project featuring the virtuosic Venezuelan pianist and composer, Otmaro Ruiz and Brazillian guitarist, Roberto Montero will be showcasing brilliant jazz arrangements of Latin, Bossa and lesser known Brazillian songs featured on their recent Grammy nominated album.
NOVEMBER 19, 5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
NICK MANCINI 4TET – One of Los Angeles’ finest jazz musicians and inventive composers, Vibes and Marimba force of nature, Nick Mancini will be presenting a “jam” packed hour of fire and ice with fellow L.A. jazz standouts, Katisse Buckingham, Sax and flute, Ahmet Turkmenglu, bass and Steve Hass on drums. Performing to standing room only audiences, Nick Mancini 4Tet communicates originals and standards in the most innovative and evocative style.
