Dear Neighborhood Church Members, Visitors, and Friends,
A welcome chill is in the morning air and our campus is once again filled with the youthful energy of Sequoyah High School’s incoming class. While I always hate to say good bye to summer, I am so excited for what’s happening at Neighborhood this fall.  If you missed any of the services this summer, please take a look on our website for all of the inspiring sermons and timely messages. Be sure to check our calendar for all of the upcoming programs and activities for all ages, including registration for Religious Education programs for children and youth and the Chalice Circle program for adults.  We also have volunteer opportunities for you to get involved on Sundays and beyond!
We look forward to welcoming you back to church with our Water Communion In Gathering service which kicks off our two Sunday service schedule, with 9:30 am and 11:30 am services on September 9th. You won’t want to miss this Sunday’s services, as Dr. Zanaida Robles debuts as our new Director of Music with our fabulous Neighborhood chorus and new Collaborative Keyboardist Vincent Lynch. Please bring a sample of water from your home or a special place to contribute to the common vessel. Join us after the services for the Welcome Back Potluck and join Dr. Robles on the Cole House patio for cake and punch. The Cole House will be open for you to enjoy the Greene and Greene treasure and view our newly transformed Member Lounge.
We have several exciting events to start off our 2018-2019 church year this month including the kick off concert for the Fall 2018 Jazz N Paz series on September 16, the All Ages Family LA Zoo Trip on September 29, and our Neighborhood Book Fair on September 30.
If you haven’t been on campus recently, our staff has been busy sprucing things up for our fall church season. To beautify the first floor of the Cole House and to promote communication and cooperation among our staff team, we have moved all of our church administrative offices to the second floor. We hope you will enjoy our new Member Lounge to savor a cup of coffee with a friend on Sunday morning or to peruse our books, sermons and other spiritual materials while enjoying the original craftsman details. This Lounge will not be “reserved” for groups, but rather kept open as a reception area for drop-in general use. We hope that this redesign of the space will help us share the history and beauty of the Cole House with our membership and the greater community.
If you have been visiting our congregation this summer and are thinking about membership, please drop by the September 16th New to Neighborhood to chat with me and our new Membership and Community Coordinator ZaNyaa Lee about joining. We would love to include you and your family in our new members service on September 30th.
Finally, along with our new music team, we’ve hired several wonderful new staff members. Please visit our online directory to see their photos and bios. Please join me in welcoming and helping our new staff get to know the congregation on Sunday mornings. I look forward to you getting to know these incredible new people and the great things we will do together.
See you in church!!
Rev. Lissa
