It has been an eventful start to fall in the world of membership! We had a full house for our October New to Neighborhood, followed by an amazing Bridging group series that focused on the importance of finding and making home within our spiritual communities. Reverend Lissa and several board members shared their stories about how Neighborhood became their home, and new members (and visitors) shared what they hope to give and receive as part of our Neighborhood community.

In an effort to further support new members and visitors who are looking to explore our community and possibly make it their home, we are also in full swing of starting a new program- Neighbor.

Neighbor is a program that will allow members to partner with returning visitors and new members to help them get better acquainted with our church, our covenant, and our community. It is currently being supported through the generous efforts of membership and welcome committee volunteers who will be friendly faces and points of contact for any new person who expresses interest in having more personal support in their exploration of UU and Neighborhood.

Partnering will be offered to guests at the welcome table, during New to Neighborhood, and Bridging groups. As we grow, we will also be looking for additional Neighbor volunteers from the congregation.

Volunteers will:

– Be a friendly face at church on Sundays

-Be open to sharing a little about themselves and their relationship with the church

– Be open to finding out a little about visitors/new members and what has brought them to NUUC

-Help visitors/new members locate committees, or contacts who can help them further explore the church community

– Introduce visitors to other church members

-Exchange contact information with visitors/new members for follow ups (should that be necessary)

– Check in with visitors/new members after a few months to see how their exploration is going.

If you are open to supporting A GUEST who is exploring Neighborhood please reach out to me at or find me at the Welcome Table on Sunday! We’d love for visitors to meet the folks who really make this place special, and that is YOU!

Happy Fall!
