Cultural Humility: The Heart of Building Bridges
Located in the Church Chapel
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Humility is not mentioned explicitly in the principles of Unitarian Universalism, yet it is central to many of the faith traditions in which we are grounded. Cultural humility, in particular, is the foundation of the bridges we build across different cultures and faiths. How can we, as an interfaith community, practice greater cultural humility?
Dr. Lata Murti addresses this question, drawing from her experiences as a Hindu-Unitarian Universalist. Her talk will be followed by short responses from several faith traditions. Dr. Lata Murti, a former member of Neighborhood, is an original member of Building Bridges. She is Associate Professor of Sociology at University of Massachusetts Global, teaching undergraduate classes to adult learners and serving as the instructor for the university’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion certificate courses.
