At Neighborhood Church, we strive to provide Lifelong Learning opportunities which will foster your own spiritual exploration, introduce you to new people, deepen on-going relationships, and strengthen your involvement in Neighborhood Church. We aim to provide programs that enrich, educate, and empower through classes, small groups, special events, lectures, workshops, and retreats.
Classes are added frequently and publicized in all our church communications. If you wish to receive our weekly newsletters, please contact Membership and Communications Manager, Ginger Furey.
Below you will find a list of our ongoing Adult Spiritual Exploration offerings. For more information about any of these opportunities, please contact Director of Spiritual Exploration Matt Vasko.
Coffee Klatch: This is a weekly chance for adults to get together over Zoom for some virtual face time to discuss what’s happening in the world and in our lives. Join us for lively discussion! We begin with some opening words and a check-in. All are welcome!
Gentle Yoga: Join Neighborhood Church member Mary Brennan weekly on Zoom for this gentle class. Mary’s style is slow moving, meditative, and adaptable to various levels of ability. This is a mat class using props readily available at home. Each class will be 1-hour long. Mary is a certified yoga instructor and has been practicing yoga for more than 20 years.
Mindfulness Hour: Join Licensed Clinical Social Worker Maggie Thomas M.Ed. monthly for an hour focused upon Mindfulness. Mindfulness tools will be discussed, and participants will engage in group activities to learn ways that mindfulness can shift their lives for the better.
Shakespeare Club: This affinity group for lovers of The Bard meets monthly. They discuss a different Shakespearian work at each meeting. It’s best to touch base with the group leader before attending this group to learn about what is coming up and read the play before the meeting. Church member Larry Sparks is the contact person for this group.
Young Adult Group (20s & 30s): Join us for a time of spiritual reflection while building friendship and community. For more information contact Sydney Kysar at: skysar@neighborhooduu.org. The group meets on campus in the living room, every other Wednesday at 7:30pm PST. Email Sydney to be added to the NUUC Young Adult monthly email to stay up to date on all events!
Writing Group: Join member Lexi Schwede for our writing group! This group meets monthly. Come explore how writing can help you better connect with your deeper self. Whether you write for pleasure or publication, this group has something to offer you.
Chalice Circles: *Registration NOW OPEN* CLICK HERE. Bring groups of 8-10 members and friends of Neighborhood Church together in a monthly spiritual practice. By sharing your thoughts and feelings on a new topic each month you connect with other members of your Circle on a deeper level than can be achieved through casual conversation. Sign-ups take place in late summer and monthly meetings run from October through May. Some mid-year openings do occur.
Childcare: We are committed to providing childcare for all classes and events open to the entire congregation. To ensure safety and adequate supervision, we request that you reserve a space for your child at least one week in advance by contacting the Director of Spiritual Exploration.
If you have an idea for a class or think you might be interested in leading a class, please contact Matt Vasko, Director of Spiritual Exploration.
